Knowledge is power. And in “The New World Historians,” we see how knowledge can provide tangible rewards (the steam locomotive, for example). It’s interesting to see how the New World Historians seem to be gathering and collecting knowledge. It certainly provides them a measure of power. But you know what they say about power and corruption …

“Trespass” continues the tradition of strong Clone Wars episodes which encompass action, drama, humor, and a just enough morality to make the episode about something worthwhile. This particular episode isn’t quite as spectacular or profound as some of the others in the Clone Wars series, but nevertheless, it is still an episode that is well worth watching.

“An Offering to Uktena” pulls together a great many of the threads introduced during the past few episodes. As such, it provides a few answers while keeping a number of questions wide open for interpretation. It’s a natural and absolutely compelling conclusion to this part of the series.

Knight Rider, you’ve got my attention.
“Exit Light, Enter Knight” is an intense, well-paced, relatively smart and engaging episode. From start to finish it is relentless with suspense and drama and only a relatively abrupt ending really diminishes the story. True, there still isn’t a whole lot of character work being done, and the episode doesn’t have a whole lot to say about anything. But for what it sets out to be, this mindless entertainment was highly entertaining. We’ll see if the rest of the retooled episodes have the immediacy and impact of this one, but for now, Knight Rider can bask in the glory of a job well done.

“A Quiet Place” continues the mysterious and metaphysical journey Russell suddenly finds himself taking. And I have to admit, this episode, along with its predecessor, are thoroughly captivating.

In some ways, you have to hand it to Lost … they’ve completely abandoned the deep character exploration which elevated the series to something special and instead have devoted themselves to a purely mystery-based, plot-twist narrative. And yet the story is so interesting that the episodes remain rather entertaining – even if they are ultimately devoid of any real meaning or intrinsic value. Such is the case with “Jughead” – an episode that is sure to thrill fans who simply want to be surprised every other scene. This episode accomplishes its goal with such aplomb that you can (almost – but not quite) forget that this series once represented the epitome of episodic television.

“Looking Glass” is, as the titled suggests, very much like passing through to another world — like Alice falling down the rabbit hole. In this case, we’re not quite sure what has happened to Russell. Or into which world he has fallen. But the revelations are, to put it mildly, mind-boggling.

Despite its whimsically amusing title, “The No-Brainer” is a terribly uneven episode. It has plenty of mystery and suspense and a few nicely laced character moments. There’s also an attempt at a thematic connection between the main narrative and the subplot. But the episode also features a strongly detrimental supporting character, an awkward pacing, and superfluous melodrama. As a result, the episode is barely above average.

“Stranger Than Real Life” is a fascinating episode, perhaps the most satisfying installment of After Judgment to date. A new character is introduced … as is the concept of a “prophecy.”

“Subterranean” is another episode packed with important and tantalizing information. In essence, it’s setting up the next episode, setting the stage for Russell’s “great revelation.” Even so, it provides more than enough to keep people thinking about the Serpent Mound and its possible connection to The Fall.

Star Trek V: The Final Frontier is almost unanimously labeled as the very worst Star Trek film ever produced. And, truth be told, it’s almost impossible to dispute such an assessment. It really is a disjointed, awkward, clumsy, campy affair that barely manages to accomplish anything. The film is, simply, mismanaged. But I will say this, I disagree that The Final Frontier is far and away the worst film of the franchise. Put alongside Nemesis, the two films are roughly comparable in their overall failures (and minor successes). The details of the failures and (minor) successes are, of course, slightly different. But the bottom line is that this film is no worse an overall experience than Nemesis.

“47 Minutes” blows the top off of the series — almost literally. Within the span of just a couple of minutes, countless theories, connections, and narrative elements are thrown into the mix in such a way that if you blink, you just might miss them. Not a whole lot happens, plotwise, but it is in the references, the setting, and the nature of what is happening that makes all the difference. And if you love conspiracy theories, puzzles, or the like, you’ll love the implications of this episode …

“The Traveler” ends up being one of the more entertaining episodes of Crusoe – an episode in which, finally, the overall story begins to coalesce and take shape. Certainly the series has made its mistakes but to give credit where it’s due, Sam Neill’s turn as Blackthorn is enough to make this an episode that, while still riddled with many of the same issues that have plagued Crusoe from the start, is, ultimately, enjoyable to watch.
