1.06 – No More Time – After Judgment Review
“Steven decides to take a stroll to the pizza shop. Along the way he bumps into The Cop (just looking for a change of scenery). Steven then encounters someone else he never expected to meet, and she makes him an offer he can’t refuse.”

“No More Time” provides an interesting hint about the nature of the world — namely that time doesn’t seem to pass. But beyond the reinforcement of the seemingly hopeless monotony, this is the first episode to explicitly advance the plot, with Steven and Michelle meeting in the pizza shop.
In this episode:
- “Here’s the thing … I shoot her, and I know she won’t die.”
- Walks past a man doing a ventriloquist act
- Steven bumps into a cop who pulls a gun
- Steven replies, “You know that doesn’t work on me, right?”
- The cop says he’s in the area for a change of scenery to “pass the time”
- Steven responds that “there is no more time”
- He says that people can be killed, but that “it seems to take a lot of effort”
- There’s a quick scene of Trainers killing a man
- Walks past a sign that says “Quarantine”
- Heads to a pizza shop to make himself a pizza
- Michelle walks in and says, “I’ll take a slice of pepperoni”
- She offers Steven a “trade” for the pizza

The episode itself is a bit inconsistent, with Steven’s monologue and some of the more off-beat characters that Steven bumps into (including that rapid cut of a man being attacked by the Trainers). But I suspect that the encounters aren’t completely random — and that these characters will likely have more prominent and meaningful roles down the road. But that doesn’t help this particular episode all that much.
Instead, the episode’s value comes from Steven’s decision to trek to a pizza shop to make himself pizza. Beyond the chance encounter with Michelle, the act of creation is meaningful and demonstrates that Steven has an underlying need to make meaning from his life. It’s a nice moment, giving us a glimpse into the deeper levels of his character.
