1.12 – We Stay Together – After Judgment Review

“We Stay Together” continues the mystery of not only the present, but the past as well. This balancing act is well handled within the episode, although, the revelations aren’t particularly new for anyone who has been following the “Before Judgment” installments of the series.

In this episode:

100 years and 56 hours later
The group decides to take a brief break
Decides that starting fresh would be a good idea
Steven mentions missing the stars again
Mentions the Trainers that they recently ran into

“101 years ago …”

We see Steven playing with a little boy
He watches a newscast of “The night the world went away”
Enigmatic images cross the screen while the newscaster says:
“The instructions are simple. Those people who have been chosen will know where to go, I assume instinctively.”

Is it just me, or does Steven vaguely resemble Jack from Lost in this episode? Either way, the effect is rather amusing. And I definitely like the layer of Steven playing with a young boy just prior to the night when the world went away. It not only adds to Steven’s character, but also plants a reasonable doubt as to Steven’s motivations for finding the boy in the present. Also a plus for this episode is the fact that it portrays the various characters as growing a bit closer — thanks to the shared experience of searching for the boy. It’s almost a kind of Fellowship. And it’s a nice touch.

As far as criticisms go, the only one I can think of is the fact that the episode doesn’t really further the plot a whole lot. But this is offset by the developing camaraderie of the group and the explicit layering of Steven’s character and past.
