Episode 3 – Central Division Review
After the shocking conclusion to the second episode, Detectives Edwards and Hodge deal with the fallout of betrayal. The revelation of the episode — that not everything is as it appears to be — is yet another solid development, playing off the expectations of the audience.
In this episode:
- Hodge confronts Edwards about Edwards’ involvement with Internal Affairs
- Hodge confirms the information Edwards provided in the previous episode
- Hodge plans to head to the airport
- Hodge confonts Edwards about being sold out
- Hodge reveals that Edwards’ wife, Sarah, is not dead … but is coming with him
The editing of this episode is an interesting storytelling device. We jump from the end of one set of dialogue directly into another, without a natural transition. The effect is to emphasize the immediacy of the circumstances. Again, the acting is solid and the storytelling leaves the audience clamoring for more. Put simply, this is a series worth following — if only to see what will happen next. But that’s not all. There’s a legitimate mystery afoot. And its revelation, as well as what it means for the characters, is another reason to tune in for the next installment.
