1.03 – Knight of the Iguana – Knight Rider Review

“Knight of the Iguana” is an example of why Knight Rider, as a series, has amounted to nothing more than mindless drivel. Outside of an amusing open sequence, the rest of the episode is a mishmash of poorly contrived, and increasingly implausible events, culminating an ending which smacks of over-used television cliché. I’m not quite sure how or why this series ever made it this far. But there’s little here to provide any measure of real entertainment – unless you’re simply ogling the beach babes. And let’s face it, if looking at sex objects is your thing, you can do that much easier (and better) online. Put simply, this series is, at best, a novelty.

This particular episode features some relatively poorly paced cloak-and-dagger sequences taking place on a beach filled with bikinis and surfers. Outside of the visuals (certainly no complaints there), the episode just doesn’t go anywhere. Michael has some awkward sexual tension scenes between Zoe and Sarah. There’s (yet another) ex-army guy who has turned to evil ways. (Incidentally, what is this show saying about armed service veterans by portraying so many of them as crooked mercenaries?) And once again it’s basically up to Michael, KITT and the team to ferret out the real story behind the mystery of a disappeared agent.

Along the way, they discover that the agent has also turned crooked. And that Knight Industry smart bazooka missiles have been stolen in a plot to blow up a nuclear power plant. Why (other than the typical money ploy)? No one in the episode knows. Maybe this is all setting up to be some big ol’ conspiracy thingy. But at this point, it barely registers and the complete lack of focus makes the episode simply inane.
