The Clone Wars: Episode Timeline
“Always in motion, the Clone Wars time line is.”
The Clone Wars has taken a fascinating, non-linear approach to episodic storytelling. While its not uncommon for the series to tell a story across two or three consecutive episodes, it’s just as likely that an episode will be either a prequel or sequel story to a prior installment. Confused yet? Just try putting the episodes into any semblance of chronological order. The self-contained arcs are easy to group together. But where do they stand in relation to one another? As it turns out, there isn’t a whole lot of information to go on. It’s even likely that, by the end of the series, there will be no intent to create a definitive order (though I imagine the intrepid writers have some sort of reference guide). But for fun … and for self-loathing, headache-inducing purposes, I’ve made my first attempt at assembling this puzzle-without-a-final-picture.
Christophsis:
- 2.16 – Cat and Mouse (Precedes all other episodes, immediately followed by “1.16 – The Hidden Enemy” and the Feature Film; See notes for 3.07)

- 2.21 – R2 Come Home (See notes for 3.07)
- 2.22 – Lethal Trackdown (See notes for 3.07)
Ziro The Hutt:
- 3.07 – Assassin (The series begins … on Christophsis with “Cat and Mouse,” The Hidden Enemy,” and the Feature Film. Many Season One and Season Two episodes follow, with Season Two’s Boba Fett episodes introducing Aurra Sing … The Jedi mistakenly believe that Aurra is dead, until she surfaces in this episode, which brings back Ziro — chronologically — for the first time since his imprisonment. The story continues in the next Season Three episode, “Evil Plans”, and Aurra will somehow be freed from captivity in time for Cad Bane’s attack on the Senate in Season One’s “Hostage Crisis.” The drama surrounding Ziro and his freedom then picks up in “Hunt for Ziro,” the ninth episode of this season.)
- 3.08 – Evil Plans (After “2.01 – Holocron Heist,” immediately before “1.22 – Hostage Crisis”, some time before “2.15 – Senate Murders”)
- 1.22 – Hostage Crisis (See notes for 3.07 & 3.08)
- 3.09 – Hunt For Ziro
Miscellaneous:
- 2.15 – Senate Murders (See notes for 3.04 & 3.08)
All notes are from the official episode guide available from starwars.com. As you can see, the guides provide some useful information, but certainly not enough to really make a solid determination on the order of events. Just to make things easier on myself, I grouped episodes as much as possible by story arcs, assuming that, for the most part, events within the arcs occur roughly close together.
Though, if you take the Mandalore arc, it’s quite possible that other episodes fit between “Duchess of Mandalore” and “Corruption.” Also, there’s no clear indication of where exactly the Mandalore episodes happen in relation to just about everything else. When in doubt, I tried ordering episodes by their air date. Finally, “Senate Murders” posed its own special problems. Quite a few notes from starwars.com reference events that happen before this one, but those notes never identify a clear predecessor.
This is, as they say, a work in progress! I will do my best to update this post whenever new episodes and information becomes available. Feel free to offer opinions, feedback, corrections, or mockery.

I looked on the internet and this is the only Star Wars The Clone Wars Episode Timeline, This helps a lot, keep up the good work!
Will you be updating this to include the rest of the episodes for the third season, or have u forgotten about this project. I hope you do update it soon as I found it quite useful.
Thanks.
Primo, you champ. This made me so mad, but you have certainly sorted out this slack chronology. I almost gave up on the series for a while there.
Thank you very much
Also, the rest of season 3… where does that all fit, I haven’t seen it yet, and I don’t want it ruined by a lack of continuity.
He either forgot or felt the rest of season 3 was fairly obvious in terms of timeline.
When you consider the fact that starting with Season 3′s Episode 10: “Heroes on Both Sides” all the characters appear older they would logically have to take place after all episodes airing before hand.
Either way using the same general rules for chronologicalizing:
The Confederate Peace
3.10-3.11 – Heroes on Both Sides, Pursuit of Peace
Savage Oppress
3.12-3.14 – Nightsisters, Monster, Witches of the Mist
Mortis
3.15-3.17 – Overlords, Alter of Mortis, Ghosts of Mortis
Raid of the Citadel
3.18-3.20 – The Citadel, Counter Attack, Citadel Rescue
Wookiees & Trandoshans
3.21-3.22 – Padawan Lost, Wookiee Hunt
Picking up where he left off:
Army Expansion:
3.10-3.11 – Heroes on Both Sides, Pursuit of Peace
**2.15 – Senate Murders
The Third Apprentice:
3.12-3.14 – Nightsisters, Monster, Witches of the Mist
The Chosen One:
3.15-3.17 – Overlords, Alter of Mortis, Ghosts of Mortis
Raid of the Citadel:
3.18-3.20 – The Citadel, Counter Attack, Citadel Rescue
Wookiees & Trandoshans
3.21-3.22 – Padawan Lost, Wookiee Hunt
The Battle of Mon Calamari
4.01-4.03 – Water War, Gungan Attack, Prisoners
Bombad General
4.04 – Shadow Warrior
**Senate Murders should be watched after Pursuit of peace
Elliot, if you happen to see this, The director of The Clone Wars, Dave Filoni, said that starting with the Nightsisters episodes of season three, the future episodes would go in chronological order. So as of the end of season three there should not be any more prequels or sequels but you never know. He said the new upgraded character models are so much better that they won’t be going backwards in the story from now on.
I really hope there is an ultimate blu-ray box set someday that places the shows in chronological order instead of the way they aired.
I can add to this project since Sam has not been around.
Episode 2:15 “Senate Murders” should follow episodes 3:10 “Heroes on Both Sides” and 3:11 “Pursuit of Peace”. These were created later as prequels to Senate Murders. If I were making a new disc in chronological order, I would place 2:15 Senate Murders in season three after these others because it ends with
***SPOILER***
the death of Onaconda Farr and he is alive in the other episodes prior to this.
The two prequels to Senate Murders are the first appearance of the upgraded Ahsoka and Anakin CG models so from this trilogy on according to Dave, every episode should flow in order.
So after 3:09 “Hunt for Ziro” these should go next up there on the page…
3:10 “Heroes on Both Sides”
3:11 “Pursuit of Peace”
2:15 “Senate Murders”
then should come The Nightsisters Trilogy
3:12 “Nightsisters”
3:13 “Monster”
3:14 “Witches of the Mist”
Then The Mortis Trilogy
3:15 “Overlords”
3:16 “Alter of Mortis”
3:17 “Ghosts of Mortis”
Then The Citadel Trilogy
3:18 “The Citadel”
3:19 “Counterattack”
3:20 “Citadel Rescue”
and finally the Chewbacca appearance
3:21 “Padawan Lost”
3:22 “Wookiee Hunt”
Season 4 should flow in order hopefully all the way through the year.
Mon Calamari Trilogy
4:01 “Water War”
4:02 “Gungan Attack”
4:03 “Prisoners”
Naboo
4:04 “Shadow Warrior”
That’s it as of today. Hope this helps.
Thanks for cleaning up the episode mess. I’ve done following order correction:
3.08 “Evil Plans”, as Season 2 introduction before 2.01 because Cad Bane gets a mission from Jabba to steal the plan of the senate building. Bane’s droid Todo 360 appears here capturing first 3PO and later R2. In the end, Bane gets the next mission from Jabba and other Hutts to rescue Zero the Hutt
1.22 “Hostage Crisis”, as Bane makes use of the stolen plan to rescue Zero
3.09 “Hunt for Zero”, as immediate recapture mission of the rescued Zero in 1.22. In the end, Cad and Todo escapes to
2.01 “Holocron Heist”, to receive a new mission from Sidious who was likely impressed by Bane’s skill from 1.22. Todo reappears here for the final time
2.02 “Cargo of Doom”
2.03 “Children of Doom”
Here my complete timeline so far:

I can’t believe how rediculously out of order the series are. It annoys me that future episodes will also be prequels.
I hope someone continues to update the list.
First off, thanks very much for the OP and all the replies! It’s great to see people contributing, and this is the only attempt I’ve been able to find at sorting out a true timeline for this series.
I’m not following the last post, by Tim, and I’m not sure if I agree with all the changes by Jim, but after reading the OP et al, and watching seasons 1-3 in the proposed order, I have to say I like it better that way!
I would propose a few alterations, however. The episode number in parenthesis is the original production code, gleaned from the wikia. Anywho, this is my attempt at furthering this thread:
Christophsis:
2.16 (2.17) Cat and Mouse
1.16 (2.01) The Hidden Enemy
1.00 (?.??) TCW Film
Battleship Malevolence:
1.02 (1.07) Rising Malevolence

1.07 (1.06) Duel of the Droids
Gunray and Grievous:
1.08 (1.05) Bombad Jedi
1.09 (1.10) Cloak of Darkness
1.10 (1.12) Lair of Grievous (Fisto was alerted to Gunray’s escape, from 1.09, and that was how he was ‘lead’ to Grievous)
Pirate Ransom:
1.11 (1.16) Dooku Captured
1.12 (1.20) The Gungan General
Maridun:
1.13 (1.22) Jedi Crash
1.14 (1.24) Defenders of Peace

1.21 (1.19) Liberty on Ryloth
Cad Bane:
2.01 (1.23) The Holocron Heist (Sorry Jim, the OP was right – Madame Jacosta has not met Ahsoka yet, ergo this must be before 2.11, when Ahsoka asked Jacosta for help finding her lightsaber. Also, Todo was destroyed before the senate attacks, but rebuilt, according to some wikia references.)

4.13 (4.05) Escape from Kadavo
Thanks again to everyone for taking the time to share what you have pieced together!
I just want to take a moment to thank everyone for taking the time to debate, refine and add to the outline. It was a fun (if somewhat confusing) exercise to create it originally, but it’s been just as much fun seeing the project take on a life of its own – which it could not have done without everyone’s input.
Thank you!
PS
I’ll get to the rest of the reviews .. eventually.
Liechtenauer, you are wrong about 1.22, it cannot be before 3.07 since Aurra is assumed dead from episode 2.22 until until 3.07 where they learn she is still alive, ergo if 1.22 was before 3.07 but after 2.22 like you suggest, then it is episode 1.22 that they would learn she is still alive.
The only explanation is that Aurra escaped prison.
Also, Jim is right about 2.01 Holocron Heist, it has to be after 3.09 Hunt for Ziro. Bane’s little droid friend survives 3.09 but is drestroyed in 2.01
lol wait, I take back the last comment, because the Jedi discuss Bane in 2.01 as if they have never encounted him before, so it must be earlier on. I guess he just got a new droid.
Sam – thanks for starting the thread! It really was confusing, and though this might truly be an exercise in futility (read: continuity isn’t always seamless!) it’s fun trying to make some sense of it.
Hey cool, thanks for the heads up about 1.22, I’ll have to look into the ‘Aurra returns’ part more! Maybe the Ziro the Hutt arc was actually before the Boba Fett/Aurra Sing arc?
Regarding 2.01, I think I mentioned I found some references on Wookiepedia that Todo, the little droid that got blown up in the Jedi comms centre, was rebuilt by Anakin in an attempt to discover more information about Bane. I guess he had no memory of being blown up by Bane, or assumed that was ‘his lot in life’, and that’s why he returned to Bane? Here’s the reference : http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Todo_360
I didn’t catch the part about the Jedi discussing Bane in 2.01, good point!
I too saw the article on the Star Wars wiki about Todo being rebuilt, yet it doesn’t give any clue as to where that information came from…at least none that I can see. Is it in a comic? A book? It’s not in an episode of the series. Did the person writing the article just assume that was the case? Until I see the actual basis for the story in which Todo is rebuilt after his distruction, I have a hard time buying into it. Can someone please tell me where to find this supposed event in the Star Wars continuity?

Hey, thanks for the updates !
I see there are few changes, you put the Cad Bane trilogy right after Ziro’s one. That solves the problem of the droid !
I also wondered about Aurra Sing, but she’s still a problem (women…) since she crashes in 2×22, goes to jail in 3×07, and is still here in 1×22 (which is obviously after…)…
Episodes from the 4th season are supposed to be in order, but can’t we assume 4×05-06 are between 3×07 and 3×08 ? in 4×06, Padme speaks to C3PO about a senator’s banquet, and there’s one in 3×08. Don’t you think they’re linked ?
Thanks a lot for all the work here, I randomly found this page and it helped me putting all this in order, and I’ve to say it’s quite better !
Quick Question- Early in season 4 there was an episode “Shadow Warrior” 4.04 I think- where Grevious is inured very badly, and captured (presumbaly imprisoned?) however how he escaped was never explained, or did I miss something??
This is really fantastic work. Keep it up!
