A new review of a G1 Season 2 episode, Enter The Nightbird, is now available:
Enter The Nightbird is a strong episode due to its action and themes. But most importantly, It’s memorable. Plausibility issues aside, the creation of a ninja robot, by human scientists, was handled exceptionally well. And it allowed for all manner of action and intrigue.

A new review of a G1 Season 2 episode, Day of the Machines, is now available:
Day of the Machines is another episode that is heavy on the action, and fairly light on the characterizations. And, too, there are a few contrivances and flat out plot holes that can be very distracting. What helps this particular episode is that the overall story is more than engaging enough. And, too, the action is nearly non-stop — which tends to put a shiny gloss on the more questionable parts of the episode.

A new review of a G1 Season 2 episode, Atlantis, Arise!, is now available:
Atlantis, Arise! is fun, pure and simple. It’s one of the best constructed episodes thus far, with plenty of action and double-crosses from the Decepticons and their new allies, the Sub-Atlanticans. And even though the plot is exceedingly fanciful, it works — perhaps because Nergill, the leader of the Sub-Atlanticans is a very strong supporting character. Add in another iconic performance from the Dinobots and you have one of the best Transformers episodes thus far.

A new review of a G1 Season 2 episode, The Autobot Run, is now available:
The Autobot Run is a decent episode. Megatron’s plan is uniquely villainous and the way he takes advantage of the Autobot’s generosity is particularly nefarious. The Constructicons are around — which means, of course, an always enjoyable appearance of Devastator. And Chip Chase once again saves the day (maybe he’s a distant ancestor of Wesley Crusher).

A new review of a G1 Season 2 episode, The Immobilizer, is now available:
The Immobilizer is a decent episode that provides for a small measure of characterization from Ironhide. The plot is a change of pace in that the “new invention of the week” that the Decepticons are after isn’t a human invention, but rather one from the Autobots. And it isn’t a super-duper power source, either. It’s … well … it’s an immobilizer. It all adds up to an episode that is just slightly better than average. Slightly.

A new review of a G1 Season 2 episode, Traitor, is now available:
Traitor is an enjoyable episode because it provides for a decent measure of intrigue and twist. And, too, there is a relatively prominent (for Transformers standards) focus on character. While the main plot remains the same (Megatron stealing power), I give credit for allowing for an expansion toward other concepts. As such, having an Autobot portrayed as a traitor, is certainly a breath of fresh air. Add to all of that the fact that this episode, more than most, is animated with a very high level of detail.

A new review of a G1 Season 2 episode, Attack of the Autobots, is now available:
Attack of the Autobots is a better episode than its predecessor. It features a more interesting twist to the usual doomsday plot. And it does provide for a small measure of character introspection. That being said, the narrative is also a bit disjointed.

A new review of a G1 Season 2 episode, City of Steel, is now available:
City of Steel is an episode written to showcase the Constructicons. At least initially. It’s also a showcase for New York City. Sorta. It’s got action. Well, maybe a little. Really, I’m not entirely certain what City of Steel was intended to be. Sure, we’ve got Megatron’s “plan of the week” to contend with — and it’s a fairly interesting one, if not particularly practical. But now matter how you look at it, this episode just doesn’t do much.

A new review of a G1 Season 2 episode, Changing Gears, is now available:
I’ll say this much for Changing Gears: the animation is of a very high quality, particularly when compared to some of the episodes near the end of Season 1. But aside from that, there’s very little else about this episode that is worthy of praise or discussion. The character of Gears gets a slightly interesting personality, but it isn’t anywhere near enough to carry an episode heavy on contrivance and light on plausibility.

A new review of a G1 Season 2 episode, Autobot Spike, is now available:
Autobot Spike is a terrible episode in terms of plot contrivances and plausibility. And, too, it’s notable for the fact that, even though it’s a new season, no new characters are introduced in this episode. But the Autobot Spike’s strength is its underlying themes — of choice; of the corruption of power; of hubris. In spite of the contrivances, and in spite of a by-the-numbers approach, the themes are enough to make this an episode worth watching.
